Working with Spanish Speakers is a professional development series that combines Spanish language learning with professional skills and personal reflection. It provides a solid foundation of basic Spanish language skills with targeted vocabulary and conversation skills for your workplace’s specific needs.

Now you can bring Profe Liz to your workplace to teach you and your colleagues survival Spanish for your industry so that you can make your workplace more welcoming and better serve the needs of your community.

Course Content

Additionally, depending on your professional field and your workplace’s needs, we may also study how to:

  • Schedule an appointment in Spanish

  • Make a phone call in Spanish

  • Send an email in Spanish

  • Ask basic industry-specific questions

  • Give basic industry-specific instructions

  • Learn industry-specific vocabulary

By the end of the Working with Spanish Speakers workshop series, participants will be able to:

  • Introduce themselves and others in Spanish

  • Pronounce Hispanic names correctly

  • Fill out a form with basic information in Spanish

  • Know when and how to work with a professional interpreter or translator

Working with Spanish Speakers is a live professional development series that can be customized for your workplace’s needs.

  • 3-4 90-minute live workshops

  • In-person in Minnesota or online anywhere in the United States

  • All materials are provided by the instructor

  • Requires active participation

Profe Liz works with each group to understand the workplace’s needs in terms of industry-specific vocabulary and common scenarios. She has previously adapted this course for legal professionals, dental students, and an LGBTQ+ community support organization.

Meet Your Instructor

Liz Coffield’s work in the fields of immigration law, education and social services has shown her firsthand the positive impact a Spanish-speaking professional can have. Profe Liz’s mission is to expand language access for Spanish-speakers by teaching Spanish to professionals in direct service fields. She provides flexible, immersion-focused online Spanish classes for busy adults. Profe Liz is also an experienced translator and interpreter. She holds a BA in Hispanic Studies from Macalester College and an Equity and Diversity Certificate from the University of Minnesota. When she is not teaching, she also works part-time as a legal assistant at an immigration law firm and provides freelance translation services for the local community.
